8.) Learning and Collaborative Commons. Two of three modern spaces for a University Library, the Learning Commons will provide millennial spaces for a learning environment that provides free tutoring, academic coaching / mentoring / counseling, study skills classes, as well as math and writing tutors to support students who learning differences and attention challenges. A Learning Commons is a common, or shared, learning space that is both physical and virtual. It is designed primarily to move students beyond mere research, practice, and group work to a greater level of engagement through exploration, experimentation, and collaboration. A Learning Commons is more than a room or a website. It allows users to create their own environments to improve learning. It is about changing school culture, and about transforming the way learning and teaching occur. The Collaborative Commons, on the other hand, is another space intended for a collaborative learning environment. The unique design of the facility is intended to accommodate interaction, flexibility, group planning, and decision making.
